Woman claims to own the Sun...

A woman from Spain's soggy region of Galicia, Angeles Duran, said Friday she had registered the star at a local notary public as being her property.

"There was no snag, I backed my claim legally, I am not stupid, I know the law. I did it but anyone else could have done it, it simply occurred to me first." That is a quote directly from her.

To read the full story go here: http://www.myfoxorlando.com/dpps/news/offbeat/spanish-woman-claims-she-now-owns-sun-dpgonc-20101126-gc_10808147

She want's to also tax everyone on the planet for use of the Sun, with 50% going to Spain's government, 20% to Spain's pension plan, 10% to research, 10% to end world hunger and the remaining 10% for herself...

She plans on giving most of the money to Spain? When EVERYONE uses the Sun? What's wrong with this picture? Personally I think she is both crazy and stupid, though she argues against that. I know that there is a law saying no country can own the moon, but apparently the Sun is fair game? I don't think so, honey!

A) The Sun supports all of us, not just Spain, so get over yourself.
B) Owning the Sun is just as ridiculous as the guy that claimed the moon and the rest of the planets.
and C) What the F-word are you thinking?!How selfish can you be to use most of the so-called taxes on this ridiculous venture to forward only your own country? When all of us use it?

Please...Angeles Duran, never breed. It's for everyone's good.

UPDATE!
Apparently, Ms. Duran has no legal ground to stand on, the Sun is still free for all. Like we didn't already know that.

Best. Shopping. Trip. EVER.

I didn't take this, found it on Google but man, wouldn't this be the best if you saw it in your grocery store?!

I do not agree with this concept at all...

I found this on The Daily What and I have to agree with the comment, I don't like this at all.

Architect Hideyuki Nakayama and door handles and levers manufacturer UNION came up with glass doorknobs that let you see into the room the door leads to and anything going on in it...

Am I the only one that thinks this a horrible idea and an invitation to invade someones privacy? Sheer lunacy, in my opinion...

*shakes head* I wonder so much lately what's happened to common sence and decency in this world...

Ok no, I have a comment. Lots in fact.

This item is made by Atech, http://www.atechflash.com/products-icartaplus.html , and is sold on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/iCarta-iPod-Stereo-Tissue-Holder/dp/B000HWX1J8 , for iPod users who apparently can't live long enough without their music to go to the bathroom.

What? You can't wait five minutes to listen to your Lady Gaga or Sting? Really?

And you have $100 to blow on a glorified toilet paper dispenser? Must be nice to have disposable income like that in this day and age.

Here's the specs on the thing from Atechs site:

Features:

*Built-in Rechargeable Battery provides up to 8 hours of playtime on full charge
*Plays music and podcasts from your iPhone (2G/3G/3GS/4G) / iPod players
*4 Integrated high performance moisture-free speakers deliver exceptional
clarity and high quality sound
*Charges your iPod while playing music
(will not Charge iPhone 3G/3GS, iPod Touch 2G and up, iPod nano 4G and up)
*Line-in option to play music from MP3, CD, or other Music Players
*Shuffle option allows you to play iPod shuffle(1G only)
*Integrated Bath tissue holder that can be easily folded as a stereo dock
*Requires AC Power (AC Adapter included)
*Easy to setup Wall Mount
*Can be used as tabletop Stereo setup

My fave is "Can be used as tabletop Stereo setup" ........

Really?! You want a toilet paper dispenser on your table? Wow...ok then, no accounting for taste I guess. It would be a talking point for friends coming over. Not that that's a good thing.

If you can't stand the five or so minutes it takes to go to the bathroom, you know there are these really cool things called headphones you could always use. And they're cheap. But hey, who am I to judge what people do with there money?

Cutest thing EVER

Ok, I'm not normally the cute type, but Keepon, a little dancing puffball of awesome, was too good to not share to those that haven't seen him yet.

Keepon, in the video seen below dancing to Spoon's 'I Turn my Camera On', was created by Hideki Kozima and programmed by Marek Michalowski. He was designed to study social development by interacting with children.

Here's the Wiki page for little Keepon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keepon

Isn't he adorable? And the song rocks too, so it's a two for one win! *gushes of love*

Animals of a Different Color

Animals with odd coloring have always interested me. Albino, melanistic, piebald...they all just illicit so much wonder that I feel like sharing some of my favorite images I've found from around the web.

They apparently fascinate other people too since zoo's and aquariums have displays of oddly colored critters either as permanent residents or travelling exhibits. They always draw huge crowds and I've even had the pleasure of seeing a large albino Alligator at the Cleveland Zoo when I was little.

The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, Conn. has three lobsters that are uniquely colored: Blue, Pumpkin and Calico.

So here are some pictures I've found on Google; they're lumped by color group. I hope you enjoy looking at them like I do! Who knows? Maybe you'll have a chance to see one for yourself.

Albinos:

Melanistic:

Piebald:

Other:

The purple polar bear is Pelusa in Mendoza City zoo Argentina. The color came from medication for a skin illness.
The purple squirrel is Pete and he was found at Meoncross School in Stubbington, Hampshire. One theory is that he chewed on a purple pen and while grooming himself he spread the ink all over, but that's definately not conclusive.

As you can see, the animal world has all sorts of things that boggle the mind. Normal need not apply. *chuckle*

Wait, what?

Tax authorities in Croatia asked the 1 month old baby of Snezana Kolar Tomic to provide proof that she didn't make any income in 2009...before she was even born!
http://www.croatiantimes.com/news/General_News/2010-10-19/14483/Baby_asked_to_prove_she_did_not_make_any_income_in_mother%27s_belly

I'm seriously wondering if the state of things in other parts of the world are so bad that the Tax people have to strongarm babies.

I mean, seriously? How can a baby even work in the womb, if that was at all possible which anyone with a brain knows it's not, but if so, how???

What, do they have a tiny desk in there with a mini laptop so they can collate? Or maybe they run a Pyramid Scheme by mail? You'd think the mom at the very least would notice that kind of thing.

This is definately not helping my whole "baby issue" thing...and the way America is acting lately, I can totally see this happenning here too. Which scares me.

"Creative" Grooming...

Ok, back in September the news hit that a girl in England, Natasha Gregory, dyed her little cat pink to match her hair. Read the story here if you haven't already seen it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-11418607

Now, I am a trained animal groomer, I have the certificate to prove it and I love the work. It's hard and messy and I've been bitten before and scratched all to hell but it's well worth it, it gives me a sence of acomplishment at the end of the day.

But one thing I refuse to do is the so-called Creative Grooming...where you dye your dog or cat in multi colors, cut the fur in all sorts of weird ways and maybe even paint the claws. The story above pushed me to write this entry after it stewed in my head for a while, festering and becoming what I'm sure is a tumor.

A) As with any hair dyes, it can cause allergic reactions, pain, or severe itching.
B) Painting nails (which I have done before but didn't like doing) is hard, messy work and causes stress on the dog.
C) If you want a multi colored dog or cat, buy a stuffed animal.

But does this stop people? Nope, not in the least. They actually hold competitions on how creatively you can groom your dog and probably not unpredictably, poodles are usually the overwhelming majority, though westies are also popular.

I said I painted a few dog's claws...I'm digging up bad memories for this one guys.

*takes a moment to collect myself*

Ok, so the two dogs I did this two belonged to different people. One was a boxer and he, yes HE, hated it. His owner wanted his nails to be bright pink. Now, they have 'dog friendly' nail polish that's supposed to be non toxic, but they really have the same ingredients as normal human polish so go figure. Anyways, I had the dog up on the table painting away, a chore in itself since you paint one thens pray a drying agent on it, move to the next one, drying agent, next, etc. Boxers as a whole are pretty energetic and this process annoyed the bejeezus out of this poor thing, made a mess of the table and me and by the time I was done he was so stressed out he was panting heavily and trembling.

The second was a dachsund...and he was terrified before he even got on the table. In fact, he wouldn't stay so his owner, yes this was another BOY dog, picked him up and held him. I got three done and he was so scared he actually pissed all over her twice! But she said keep going so I did. I worked for a man that wouldn't have let me quit even if the dog had chewed through it's own foot to get away. So I kept going...by the time I was done, she was soaked, the thing was shaking like it was having a seizure and all I got for it was $10!

Below is a pic of a pug with it's nails painted I got off Google:

In my search for images of all this ridiculousness I came across a woman that's won numerous awards for it during Creative Grooming contests...and admitedly her work is very good. I just wish it was on something other then the poor dogs...Her site, http://www.pinkcoyote.net/ , has most of these pics and more, but I may as well show you a few to give your minds something to work over:

Like I said, good work. Everything is well colored and cut, good proportions and all that but seriously, it had to be done on a poodle? I cringe to think of the embarassment that poor thing had to go through for this...and not just her's but every dog that goes through it. I've had to do some odd groom jobs, one of which was a mohawk on a cocker spaniel, but nothing ever this crazy.

But it seems to be gaining in popularity, which is what gets me. Why do this to your pets when you could just buy a stuffed animal? If you want a toy that badly, toy stores are friggin' everywhere, take your pick!

But now there are not only dogs dyed in bright, ridiculous colors:

There are dogs dyed to look like other animals:

And it doesn't end there:

Yes, those are more cats and even baby chickens... *head hits the desk with a groan*

SERIOUSLY!? As a groomer, this just makes me gnash my teeth. The dye/polish is supposed to be non-toxic but they can still have the same bad effects that they have on us. But some people claim to use food coloring...not much better in my opinion, though probably not as toxic. It doesn't mean we should do it though. The dogs and cats don't look all that pleased to me, and the chicks are a novelty for kids for about a week until they get their full feathers in and are then just chickens.

I just don't understand what the appeal is...if you're not a six year old girl. And even then, you can buy a stuffed animal, it's that easy. But no...this is gaining popularity and frankly, I think it's a mild sort of animal abuse.

I hope that it falls out of favor soon, for the sakes of the animals it's done on.
